Behind Huawei's 4.5GWh energy storage order: The global energy storage 'crazy rise' phenomenon.

Recently, Terra Solar, a subsidiary of MGEN Renewable Energy Company, announced that it has signed a supply agreement for a 4.5GWh battery energy storage system for the MTerra Solar project with Huawei.

Recently, Terra Solar, a subsidiary of MGEN Renewable Energy Company, announced the signing of the MTerra Solar project with Huawei.4.5GWh battery energy storage system supply agreement.

It is reported that the 3.5GW MTerra Solar and 4.5GWh battery storage project is expected to invest $6.1 billion, with EPC by China Power Construction Corporation, and will be distributed across five locations in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan, about 92 kilometers north of Manila, Philippines. It is expected to become the world's largest integrated solar and energy storage battery project.

According to reports, the project will begin commercial operations in phases, with the first phase planned to start in February 2026 and the second phase planned for February 2027.

Since 2024, Huawei has been active in the energy storage field, first launching new industrial and commercial storage products, followed by network construction technologies and cases.

In terms of technology, Huawei's proposed c2c dual-chain security architecture comprehensively reconstructs safety design from battery cells to system applications, achieving comprehensive safety assurance from products to system applications. This architecture includes dual protection for electrical link safety and thermal link safety, such as dual detection of battery cells, six-sided strong insulation at the package level, and five-level overcurrent protection for systems, effectively preventing and isolating electrical risks while reducing the risk of thermal runaway through thermal management technology.

This year, Huawei launched a wind-liquid intelligent cooling industrial and commercial storage system that features three working modes: active liquid cooling, natural air cooling, and waste heat utilization. It can automatically adjust based on environmental temperature and battery conditions to achieve 'heart rate-like' adaptive regulation control. This system design reduces auxiliary power consumption and extends the performance lifespan of energy storage systems to 15 years.

On the source network side system, Huawei's new 'energy precision accounting' power supply architecture achieves more efficient energy control and better power supply effects through refined management on both DC and AC sides along with intelligent optimization algorithms. This architecture supports a 1.3 times overload capacity while effectively reducing initial investment costs; it also meets industry’s highest class B standards through intelligent harmonic algorithms supporting multiple parallel operations.

Through 'intelligent + network construction technology', Huawei's intelligent solar-wind-storage generator can support stable grid operation while enhancing new energy access capacity by 40%.

In Saudi Arabia's Red Sea region, Huawei successfully created the world's largest solar-storage microgrid project, showcasing its technical strength in large-scale energy storage projects. These innovative technologies reflect Huawei's technological advantages and industry position in the energy storage field; they not only enhance the safety and reliability of energy storage systems but also significantly improve energy utilization efficiency and system flexibility suitable for various industrial-commercial and residential scenarios.

In fact, since 2024 Chinese companies have seen a surge in overseas orders. Among them, Sungrow has signed several important energy storage orders.

On December 6th, Sungrow signed a contract with Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) for a 1.5GWh order; this is currently Southeast Asia's largest energy storage system order. Sungrow will provide CREC with PowerTitan2.0 energy storage systems to enhance photovoltaic utilization rates while alleviating grid congestion and smoothing out energy output.

On December 2nd, Sungrow signed major distribution agreements with Raystech Company and Solar Juice Company to distribute a total of approximately 1.7GWh of Sungrow’s industrial-commercial energy storage systems over the next three years.

On November 18th, Sungrow signed a cooperation agreement for a total of 4.4GWh of energy storage with Fidra Energy involving two benchmark independent energy storage stations in the UK: Thorpe Marsh (3.3GWh) and Westburton C (1.1GWh).

On July 15th, Sungrow successfully signed contracts for what is considered the world's largest energy storage project with Saudi ALGIHAZ; this project has a capacity as high as 7.8GWh located at three sites in Najran, Madaya, and Khamis Mushait regions in Saudi Arabia set to begin delivery in late second half of2024 with full capacity grid connection operation by2025.

Including giants like Huawei,Sungrow have all entered an order 'frenzy' mode starting from2024.High-tech Storage believes: First, the Matthew effectis becoming increasingly strong;the TOP10 occupy over80% market share which is becoming reality;Second, the global demand forenergy storagemarket continues to release;besides traditional markets like China, the US,and Europe, demand continues to explodein Middle East,Southeast Asia,South America, and Australia.Source: High-tech Storage
